BLACK MIRROR - NOSEDIVE

“Nosedive” is the name of the first episode of the third season of the British series “Black Mirror”. It was released in 2016, directed by Joe Wright, produced by Laurie Borg, Charlie Brooker, Ian Hogan and Angela Philips and written by Michael Schur, Rashida Jones and Charlie Brooker, who is also one of the producers. It is a sci-fi chapter represented by Bryce Dallas, Alice Eve, Cherry Jones, James Norton, Alan Ritchson and some others famous actors and actresses.

The story takes place in a fake world in which the people is qualified by others for every social interaction that they make. Lacie Pound, the main character, is obsessed with her punctuation (like the majority of the people) and she is invited like a bridesmaid at the wedding of Naomi, one of her childhood best friends. During the route to arrive at the wedding, Lacie loses a lot of points of her score because of the bad ratings for her wrong actions. When Lacie is in her way to the wedding, Naomi Blestow (the bride) finds out that Lacie’s score has decreased, and calls her telling that she doesn't want Lacie in her wedding, because all the other guests have more than 4 points out of 5. Pound obviously got angry and continue her way. A few hours and mishaps after, she finally arrives at the wedding. Everyone is surprised by her dirty appearance. The committed, as soon as they see her, try to kick her out because they don't want her to make the speech. Lacie could do a part of the talk until she's arrested by security guards.

At the beginning of the chapter, it seems impossible that Lacie and Naomi become friends again, because Naomi is very popular and Lacie not as much as her. But when they made some video calls, they talk and all change! The most enjoyable thing about the episode is when they are thinking and talking about Naomi’s wedding and both are very happy to have the opportunity to stay together.

It’s probably one of my favourite episodes of this series because it shows perfectly how the popularity of people influence and is of interest for us. Nowadays, this is similar to what happens in social media, because we want a lot of followers and we do anything to impress them. I strongly recommend to watch it, because in an exaggerated way, we can see how this can affect in the relationships of our society. In my opinion 63 mins is the perfect duration because you can well understand the purpose of this original story.

Don’t miss it!
