NOSEDIVE REVIEW - AITOR DIAZ

NOSEDIVE

Nosedive is a chapter of the science-fiction British serie Black Mirror. It’s the first chapter of the third season and it was released on 21 October 2016. The episode is set in a world where people can rate each other from one to five stars as if they were a product.

The society qualifies each other with a mobile app from 1 to 5 and their socioeconomic status depends on the mark they have. Lacie, who’s a 4’2, has to raise her mark for acquiring a discount on an apartment. Lacie receives a call from Naomi, her childhood’s best friend, who invites her to her wedding. Naomi is actually a 4.8 and Lacie thinks it’s a good idea to be surrounded of highly-rated people, so she decides to attempt to the event.
Unlucky events caused people rate Lacie negatively, decreasing her average mark. Because of that, Naomi decides to tell Lacie to not come, even though she had done an exhausting trip. Lacie reaches the wedding and starts her speech about how Naomi really is, an horrible friend who doesn’t care, causing her mark decrease more and more. She’s arrested by the police and once she enters prison she realises that she’s now free, free of that stupid society that ranks people.

For me the best part of the episode is when she realises that what the other ones think isn’t important, that you don’t have to dress up as another person for them to like you.

I wouldn’t change anything, I love how it ends.

I highly recommend the film because in my opinion our society will turn as the episode’s one.
